Fall 2008 will kick off another year of the "Living Bridge" project which is a special partnership between schools in the New York area and schools in Israel. Through this year long project, teachers and students share what it means to be Jewish in the U.S.A. and in Israel. This unique project includes exchanging photographs between students and a professional development opportunity in Israel. The 2008-2009 Living Bridge Partnership launches in mid-November. Jewish Lens Teacher Receives Prestigious Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award for Excellence in Jewish Education
We are very pleased to announce that Vicki Wilson, a 7th grade teacher at Congregation Kehillath Shalom in Cold Spring Harbor, NY is a recipient of a 2008 Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award for Excellence in Jewish Education. Vicki is being recognized for her creative work involving the Jewish Lens curriculum. Vicki's Principal, Dalia Rosenthal (also a Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award winner) wrote this about Vicki's work:

"Together with our Ki Va Moed partners, the Huntington Jewish Center and Tali Beit Chinuch in Israel, the Jewish Lens project began. Vicki first guided the students in a study of traditional texts, while our counterparts in Israel did the same. Then the group analyzed and discussed Zion Ozeri's photographs as a stimulus for exploring Jewish values, identity, and traditions. Vicki invited their families to a workshop where the students became the teachers, explaining the process of analysis and interpretation to them. The project was a great growth experience. They were excited to take their photos and present them at a joint exhibition with the Huntington Jewish Center. This was an incredibly well-attended event that created tremendous pride in our children. It was wonderful to see the students stand before this large crowd and present their photographs and the text they had written with self-confidence and delight".
